A little bit about Laurie, the founder and owner of the firm...
Part-time tax preparer. Part-time tax educator. Full-time tax nerd.
I sometimes joke that I have gone "backwards" professionally, but only in the best way.
After graduating from SUNY Albany in 1990 with a B.S. in accounting, I headed to Boston where I began my public accounting career with the international firm of Price Waterhouse, and managed to pass the CPA exam in one sitting.
I soon returned to the Albany area, and spent a decade with local and regional accounting firms specializing in providing tax and accounting services to closely-held businesses.
I formed my solo practice in January 2001 and will soon celebrate my firm's 25th anniversary.
In addition to my individual and business tax practice, I develop and teach monthly webinars focusing on federal tax updates affecting domestic business and individual taxpayers for CPEdge (formerly Checkpoint learning and their predecessors). I am passionate about following current federal tax developments (hence the reference to full-time tax nerd) and about sharing the updates with the tax preparer community.
I have written and edited several continuing professional education texts, as well as published articles on the tax and accounting issues faced by medical and legal professionals, and the construction industry.
After a brief foray in the Sun Belt, I now split my time between Vermont ski country and Cape Cod, with my husband Tim, and our senior pup, Marley. When not preparing a client's returns, or reading the new tax legislation, I can usually be found gardening, bird watching, boogie boarding, or enjoying winter in Vermont (mostly).
